Ryan Nyther

Ryan Nyther is a professional trumpeter and freelance musician who currently graces the stage with Hannibal Burress, Isaiah Sharkey, Jamila Woods, Lupe Fiasco, Eric Roberson, Wynton Marsalis, Ivan Neville,  Roy Hargrove Jr., Buddy Guy, Maurice Brown, Carl Weathersby, R&B group Mint Condition, James Carter, and others!

Ryan is also a music educator who benefited from mentorship by Chicago Bebop/Avant Garde legends Fred Anderson, Von Freeman, and Willie Pickens as a teenager. Their guidance shaped his trajectory. For the past 3-years he has maintained a residency at Illinois Tech where his quintet is providing real time mentoring to music students from Northern Illinois University, VanderCook College of Music, and aspiring community musicians before a live audience. He is also a part of a 15 year residency at Andy’s Jazz club with the long standing group Trumpet Summit. This group performs black american music from the hard bop perspective of the 60’s and beyond. Ryan also belongs to the legendary group: the Chicago Soul Jazz Collective (CSJC). The CSJC holds a 3 year residency at Winter’s Jazz Club.

Being a private and public teacher, Ryan has recently partnered with the nonprofit organization BandWith whose mission is to uplift the youth through expert instruction that pulls from the very best mentors and performers in the Chicago area.
